MASTERING
Regardless of whether you use our mastering services or not we recommend that you master your CD. A well mastered CD will blend in with other commercially released CDs when played in context by the listener. Without getting technical here is a short explanation of what the goals are when Mastering. First, you want to make sure that within itself the CD sounds like one work. Loudness, treble and bass should smoothly blend from one song to the other unless you purposely don’t intend so. Spacing between songs and creative effects like cross-fades can be achieved at this point and improve the listening experience. Secondly, you want the CD to sound natural when played against other CDs in the same style. Once more, loudness, treble and bass should not jump up or down when A/B comparisons are made. This is where an experienced professional can be of the most help. You would be surprised how much improvement the right set of ears can bring in this department.
Here are a few tests you should make:
Pick your favorite CD in a similar style to the one you’ve just produced and compare it to yours in different listening environments. Do not adjust the volume or any other settings in between comparisons. Play it soft, play it loud, play it in the car, in the living room, boom box etc. Listen for loudness differences, boominess, brightness and speakers breaking up. After you’ve committed to an order of 300 CDs or more, upon your request, we will master a short segment of your CD FREE OF CHARGE. MP3 Email delivery only.
